Get Your API Key
Learn how to obtain and manage your API key.
Overview#
An API key is your credential for accessing the Pofano API. It authenticates your requests and links usage to your account for billing and monitoring.
Obtaining Your API Key#
- Log in to the Pofano dashboard.
- Navigate to the API Keys section in the sidebar.
- Create a new key by providing a name and optionally setting a quota limit and expiration date.
- Copy and store securely — you can copy the full key when you create it, and the current dashboard also lets you load and copy the full key again later from the API key list.
Warning: Store API keys securely. Even though the current dashboard can load the full key again for authorized users, you should still treat it like a secret and rotate it immediately if it may have been exposed.
Using Your API Key#
Include the key in the Authorization header of every request:
Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEYAll API endpoints require authentication. Requests without a valid key will receive a 401 Unauthorized response.
Key Management#
- Create multiple keys for different applications or environments.
- Set quotas per key to control spending.
- Set expiration dates for temporary access.
- Revoke keys that are no longer needed or may have been compromised.
- Monitor usage per key from the dashboard.
